HI, everyone!

This was a late entry to the Game Jam #MiniJam!

The Theme was ENVIRONMENT.  You are ONLY allowed to control the Environment.

As Roberto, you are in charge of the Lighting, Air Conditioning and Heating!

I had a lot of fun making this project, and I have a fun story to relate:

I was asked to make a bunch of sprites, we were going for a simple game, and then everyone broke up.  The programmer, had a personal emergency and we didn't know it was a bust until Day 2 of the 4 day jam.  While I have experience programming in GML for Baby Eater, this was a Unity3D project, and required knowledge I didn't have.

Luckily, GameDev.TV saved the day!  Not only was I learning from their excellent tutorials, but a number of great people from the GameDev.TV helped tutor and guide me on learning some new and fantastic ways to code!  When I say tutor, I mean tutor, they didn't write any code for me, but rather urged me to write it myself, and reason how to write the code.  They then helped me bug hunt and showed me where to make corrections.  So it was truly a learning as I go experience and I highly recommend GameDev.TV for help!  There were two others outside of GameDev.TV who also helped and were awesome as well!

This was a late submission, but as I was 1 person who was part of a 3 man crew, I still look at it as a point of success, as I took 3 days for art, 3 days for programming and 3 days for sound!  Yes, that's 9 days for a 3 day game jam, but, I figure I did the work of 3 people in the time it would've taken 3 people to do the work.  So - SUCCESS!

There are 3 endings.

The UES logo is from my other game, as is the UES Jingle (made by the amazing Lazaro, check out Baby Eater for links to his work).

I've made this game in the GameBoy style, only swapping out the palette.  I followed the rules as closely as possible in terms of limitations and believe this game could easily be ported to the original GameBoy.  I call this the Unicorn Handheld System.

Roberto the Automaton is a Fair Use modified satirical modified version of Robby the Robot.  If anyone wants to see my code, I'll put it up.  it is really really goofy ;)  I have some fun code in there.

Enjoy!

Definitely an interesting concept! I like how Roberto's slow movement works against you, providing a good challenge, especially when the lights go out.  If you plan on expanding the game, you can check out GB Studio. It's a drag-n-drop, no-code tool for making Game Boy games. Actual Game Boy ROMs! There's lots of detailed documentation, so you might easily get into it!  https://www.gbstudio.dev/

Remember!  The ZIP file is the same as the installer!  So you don't need both!
